Flyers legend Bobby Clarke recorded his 1,000th NHL point, on a third-period goal as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Boston Bruins 5-3 at the Spectrum.
Clarke was hit with a slap shot earlier in the game in the head — remember, Clarke did not wear a helmet — and although bloodied and stitched up, he returned to the game. His goal, just 31 seconds into the third, gave the Orange and Black a 5-0 lead.
The Bruins would make a late comeback, scoring three times in a 12-minute span, however the Flyers would prevail in front of netminder Pete Peeters, who stopped 22 of 25 Bruin shots.
Clarke was far from finished in his career when his 1,000th point came. The Hall-of-Famer finished his career with 1,210 points, playing in three more seasons beyond the 1980-81 campaign.
The game also featured the first NHL hat trick for another Flyers great, Tim Kerr. He pounded home two first-period goals and added the third, his 21st of the season, at the 7:53 mark of the second period.
