The buyout period ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday, leaving teams with one final day to place players on waivers for purposes of terminating contracts. The Flyers have made one of those moves when the period opened, buying out the contract of Andrew MacDonald. Now, as the deadline approaches, they are doing that with another defenseman.

David Schlemko was placed on waivers on Sunday for the purposes of terminating contract. The team will buy him out.

Schlemko, 32, was acquired by the Flyers from the Montreal Canadiens in a trade on Feb. 9 along with forward Byron Froese that sent Dale Weise and Christian Folin to Montreal. Schlemko spent the remainder of the season in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, playing in 18 games and totaling four assists.

Schlemko had one year remaining on his contract at $2.1 million. The buyout will cost the Flyers $900,000 this season and $600,000 next season. It leaves them with $16.346 million in cap space as free agency begins on Monday.
