Flyers D Radko Gudas Suspended for 2 Games
By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor
Any chance at a Flyers comeback in their 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday was really thwarted in the final five minutes of the third period. After Phil Varone was called for tripping Louis Domingue, Radko Gudas took a high-sticking penalty that gave Tampa 1:08 of 5-on-3 time with 3:49 to play.
That didn’t just take Gudas off the ice for two minutes. It also earned him a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. Gudas has been suspended for two games for the incident.
Gudas will miss Thursday’s game in Montreal and Saturday’s Stadium Series game in serving the suspension.
Video of the high-stick/slash by Gudas on Nikita Kucherov can be seen here.
Gudas has a suspension history, but had been relatively clean and consistent all season, with just 49 penalty minutes this season in 58 games. Gudas has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points this season.
With Gudas’ suspensions, it opens the door for Phil Myers to get back into the lineup for the next two games. Myers debuted on Sunday in Detroit and played a solid game, getting just under 10 minutes of ice time.
In addition to Gudas’ suspension, defenseman Robert Hagg was also fined the maximum amount under the CBA for interference on Cedric Paquette.
The Flyers get back on the ice on Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens.
