Forget the standings for a moment. If there is one team in worse shape than the Philadelphia Flyers, it's the Carolina Hurricanes.
Carolina enters with a 4-7-3 record, but their home ice struggles and injury woes will give the Flyers a clear advantage in their Tuesday night meeting.
After Friday's embarrassment against the Washington Capitals, the Flyers rebounded with a 1-0 win that centered around a solid defensive performance.
The problem with the Flyers still lies within the offense, which has scored 21 goals in 13 games, 1.6 per game. Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell are still in search of their first goal of the season. It is an epidemic.
Even with the shutout effort on Saturday, Ray Emery will give way to Steve Mason once again. Mason is 3-7 with a 2.42 GAA and .922 save percentage.
The Hurricanes are an incredibly injury-riddled team. They will be without Jeff Skinner, Radek Dvorak, Joni Pitkanen and both of their starting goalies.
That brings them to start Justin Peters, who is 0-5-0 with a 3.49 GAA and a .890 save percentage.
That is going to force the Hurricanes to rely heavily on Eric Staal and Jordan Staal as well as Alexander Semin, Nathan Gerbe  and Jiri Tlusty.
Carolina has also lost five straight games and is just 1-3-3 on home ice. Their only win at home is against the Flyers on Oct. 6.
