The Philadelphia Flyers came back from a 2-1 defecit after two periods. They led 3-2 halfway through the third. Jarome Iginla scored to tie the game, and Ryan O'Reilly netted the game winner with 20 seconds left in overtime to give Colorado a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia in Denver on Wednesday night.
The first period was a penalty filled stanza. All told there were eight minor penalties called. The Flyers went 3 for 3 killing penalties. Colorado was not so lucky.
Jakub Voracek scored his 15th of the year on the power play at 10:14 to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds drew the assists on the goal. The period would end with the Flyers ahead in shots 10-8 and on the scoreboard 1-0.
Colorado dictated much of the play in the middle stanza. The Avalanche would score two goals in the period and take a 2-1 lead to the locker room.
The first Colorado goal was scored by former Flyer prospect Nate Guenin. Guenin fired a laser home from the point. Marc-Andre CLiche and Max Talbot got the assists.
The second Colorado goal of the period was scored by Borna Rendulic. It was Rendulic's first career NHL goal. He fired a shot home from the slot at 14:17. Gabriel Landeskog and Brad Stuart drew the assists.
The Flyers would tie the game just 2:52 into the tird on Vincent Lecavlier's sixth goal of the season. Braydon Coburn and Chris VandeVelde had the assists.
Claude Giroux would put the Flyers ahead at the 10 minute mark of the third. Giroux zig zagged his way in and scored his 13th of the year on the power play. Mark Streit had the lone assist on the goal.
Jarome Iginla would tie the game on the power play at 12:48. Nick Holden and Alex Tanguay got the assists on Iginla's 9th of the season.
The teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the remainder of the third but neither team could put the puck in the net.
Ryan O'Reilly scored with 20 seconds left in the overtime to give Colorado the 4-3 win. Steve Mason made 29 saves in the loss. Seymon Varlamov made 26 saves for the win. The Flyers will be in action next on Friday at 7:00 in Carolina.
