Steve Mason made 32 saves in the Flyers 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Sunday.
For a team that desperately needed points of some kind, the Flyers didn't play that way. In fact, they played the opposite.
Facing the Carolina Hurricanes, it looked as if the Canes were the team desperate for points early in the season, as they out-shot the Flyers, 34-18. Steve Mason was up to the task for much of the night, stopping 32 of the 34 shots.
It still wasn't enough to earn the Flyers their first win or point of the season, as they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1, on Sunday night in Raleigh.
The Hurricanes struck for the game's first goal at 8:11 of the first period when Jay Harrison beat Mason.
Just three minutes into the second, the Flyers tied it, with Luke Schenn walking around a couple of defenders and shooting high over the shoulder of Anton Khudobin.
The Canes answered just over five minutes later, as Jeff Skinner set up Radek Dvorak for his second goal of the season.
The Flyers had limited chances throughout. After having ample power-play chances in the first two games, the Flyers were on the power play twice in Sunday's game. The Hurricanes were 0-for-4 on the power play.
The first period was tilted heavily in favor of the Hurricanes, as they outshot the Flyers, 17-5. The Flyers started to even things out in the second before falling back in the third. The Flyers were outshot, 7-3, in the third, showing a lack of urgency and drive to gain some form of points.
For just the fourth time in franchise history, and for the second straight season, the Flyers have dropped the first three games in regulation earning no points.
Now off until Tuesday, the Flyers return home to face the Florida Panthers from the Wells Fargo Center looking to grap their first win of the season then. The opening face-off is at 7:05.
