One of the keys to the Flyers current three-game winning streak has been the excellent play in goal by Brian Elliott.
Elliott is 9-6-6 with a 2.79 GAA and .912 save percentage on the season, but shined in the past week, making three starts in four nights and making 103 saves on 108 shots — a .954 save percentage — on the Flyers Western Canada road trip.
That stretch of games earned Elliott the NHL's third star of the week for the week ending on Dec. 10.
Elliott has been a strong addition to the Flyers. Despite the overall record, Elliott has been strong in several games this season, including some of the close overtime losses on the Flyers 10-game losing streak.
Elliott has also been getting regular playing time, especially with Michal Neuvirth now out with a lower-body injury. Elliott has appeared in 13 of the Flyers last 14 games, including 12 starts. Elliott has also faced 35 shots or more in six of his 12 starts.
Former Flyers forward Brayden Schenn, now with the Blues, was the first star of the week with six goals and one assist on the week, bringing his season totals to 16 goals and 37 points on the season. Blues netminder Jake Allen was the second star of the week, posting a 4-0-0 record with a 1.50 GAA and .944 save percentage during the week.
Elliott and the Flyers return to the ice on Tuesday night to face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
