The Flyers will start rookie camp in mid-September as they begin preparations for the 2016-17 season. To close out rookie camp, on Sept. 21, they will meet with another team's top prospects in an exhibition match.
The Flyers and Islanders will face off at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, NY at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for a prospects game.
The game is expected to feature some of the team's top prospects such as Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim.
The Flyers have hosted four prospect games since 2007, the last being in 2014 at Flyers SkateZone in Voorhees. The Flyers defeated the Washington Capitals, 3-0, in that game.
All of the prospect games in previous years, seven dating back to 2007, have been against the Capitals.
When the Flyers rookies last took the ice in a similar scrimmage in 2014, players such as Shayne Gostisbehere and Scott Laughton were participants. Flyers veterans Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier have also participated in prospect games over the various years.
The prospect game on Sept. 21 sets the stage for the preseason, which begins on Thursday, Sept. 22.
