For the first time in the history of the franchise, the Flyers on Thursday will take the ice without Ed Snider, the heart and soul behind the team.
As announced on various social media channels, the Orange and Black have added a black memorial patch to the left sleeve of their jerseys, reading his initials "EMS."

The patch will continue to be worn throughout the playoffs, and could very well extend into the team's 50th anniversary next season. In addition, the team will honor Snider's life in a public memorial at Wells Fargo Center next Thursday, after the fourth game of the Flyers-Capitals series.
Game 1 begins at 7 p.m. tonight at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
