With free agency set to begin, the Flyers have started to work on finalizing deals with some of their own players due for new contracts.
Last Thursday, Radko Gudas signed a four-year extension, one of four unrestricted free-agents the team had.
On Monday, the Flyers announced that qualifying offers had been extending to five of their restricted free agents within the organization: Brayden Schenn, Nick Cousins, Brandon Manning, Jordan Weal and minor-leaguer Petr Straka.
Schenn is the big name on the list, as he is due for a sizable new contract this offseason. Putting up career numbers in 2015-16, Schenn scored 26 goals and had 59 points in 80 games.
Cousins and Manning both spent extended time at the NHL level last season as well. Cousins played in 36 games, scoring six goals and adding five assists for 11 points, and proved to be a solid role player on the team's third line. Manning played in 56 games, scoring one goal and adding six assists for seven points while serving largely in a third-pairing role on the blue line.
Weal was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings for Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn in January. He played in just four games with the Flyers last season and registered no points.
Straka made his NHL debut in the 2014-15 season, playing in three games and picking up two assists. Last season, in 64 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Straka scored 19 goals and added 18 assists for 37 points.
The Flyers also have Ryan White, Sam Gagner and Evgeny Medvedev as unrestricted free agents who could hit the market on July 1. Medvedev is not expected to be re-signed and Gagner is also a doubtful return for the Flyers.
Notes: One additional contract note, as the Flyers re-signed minor-league defenseman Mark Alt to a one-year, two-way deal over the weekend.
