The Flyers and Penguins take things outdoors this weekend in the third outdoor game for the NHL this season. The Stadium Series featured multiple outdoor games per season, and putting the two cross-state rivals against each other has been a long-awaited occurrence.
But fans may have to wait a little longer, at least if Mother Nature gets in the way of things. The forecast in Pittsburgh this weekend calls for warmer temperatures approaching 70 degrees and rain on Saturday.
Flyers President Paul Holmgren said Wednesday that if the rain made conditions too poor to play, the game would be played on Sunday.
The potential that rain forces the postponement of the game on Saturday is a definite possibility given the weather forecasts, but the NHL will likely do everything they can to get the game in at the originally scheduled time.
We'll have more on the upcoming Flyers-Penguins Stadium Series game later this week.
