The Flyers made the final roster move on Monday morning. Defenseman Andrew MacDonald did not take the ice with the rest of his Flyers teammates.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced that the Flyers will place the defenseman on waivers at noon on Monday, leaving 23 players on the roster, the final total needed for Thursday’s season opener.

MacDonald has been a disappointment since signing a six-year, $30 million contract in 2014. In just his second season under the new contract, MacDonald’s $5 million salary hits waivers.

The move now solidifies roster spots for both forward Scott Laughton and defenseman Brandon Manning, both who figure to play in Thursday’s opener. Based on the lines at Saturday and Monday’s practices, forwards Sam Gagner and Vincent Lecavalier and defenseman Luke Schenn were the indicated scratches.

The Flyers open the season on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The opening face-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
