Flyers-Predators: Game 34 Preview

By Rob Riches, Sports Talk Philly contributor

The Flyers' 10-game streak may be over, but they have a chance to resume their winning ways on home ice when they welcome the Nashville Predators to town, for their second matchup against the Preds in 15 days.

It's been a bit of a rough stretch for the Preds as of late. They've lost seven of their last 10 games — including a 4-2 decision to the Flyers in the Music City on Dec. 4 — and sit at sixth place in the Central Division, with a 13-12-5 record. They've lost their last four games against the Orange and Black (dating back to Feb. 21, 2015) and have lost six of their last eight games at Wells Fargo Center (dating to March 3, 2004).

The Flyers and Predators are set to meet at 7 p.m.

As the Flyers trailed in the waning minutes of their game against Dallas, Ivan Provorov did what he could to generate chances and tie the game. He did get several chances through, but ended up ringing his shots off the crossbar and goalpost. Those are two mistakes the young blueliner will surely look to redeem for in tonight's contest.

You'd think this space would be reserved for a big-ticket defenseman like P.K. Subban, but considering his well-known struggles with the Predators so far (as well as an upper-body injury), we'll go with a player with points in four of his last five games, Viktor Arvidsson. In his third season with the Predators, the young Swedish left winger is enjoying a breakout campaign, and has been a bright spot on an otherwise-sluggish Preds squad.

Steve Mason will start in goal for the Flyers, making his 16th start in 18 games. In 21 lifetime games against the Predators, Mason is 8-7-5 with a 2.40 GAA and a .917 save percentage.

Pekka Rinne will take the ice for the Predators, after recording his 250th career win last Tuesday against St. Louis. The Preds' longtime netminder allowed three goals on 17 shots in his most recent start on Thursday against Minnesota.
