The long-awaited contract has finally been reached. The Flyers and Ivan Provorov have a deal.
Provorov has reportedly signed a six-year deal worth $40.5 million, an average annual value of $6.75 million, just hours before the Flyers begin training camp on-ice workouts.
Provorov, 22, was one of three top RFA defensemen working toward a deal. Zach Werenski re-signed with the Blue Jackets on Monday. Charlie McAvoy and the Bruins are working toward a deal as well.
Last season, Provorov struggled at the start but steadied his play in the second half. He scored seven goals and had 26 points. Provorov did average his highest ice time in his career, playing on average 25:07 per game. In his first two NHL seasons, he scored 23 goals and 71 points. To this point in his career, Provorov has never missed a game.
Provorov was drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and immediately viewed as the Flyers future top-pairing defenseman. He quickly rose through the ranks, making the final roster in the 2016-17 season, where he immediately averaged over 21 minutes of ice time as a rookie.
This leaves Travis Konecny as the only RFA still unsigned for the Flyers. As of Thursday, reports were that the Flyers and Konecny were not close to a deal. Talks of a new contract ended on Thursday night with no resolution, meaning Konecny will miss at least the first day of training camp.
Flyers training camp begins on Friday with on-ice sessions at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will continue on Saturday and Sunday at the same times.
