After dropping their fifth straight game, a listless 5-2 decision to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, the Flyers made some moves that indicate change is coming to the lineup.
The Flyers dipped into the minor league system, calling up forward Danick Martel and defenseman Sam Morin ahead of Wednesday night's game against the New York Islanders, GM Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday morning.
To make room for both players on the roster, both Matt Read and Mark Alt have been loaned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Morin was originally going to be called up a few weeks ago, but an undisclosed injury kept him out for two weeks and in the minors. Morin was with the Flyers for the first four games of the season, but served as a healthy scratch in each game. Morin's NHL debut was on April 4 last season and is his only NHL appearance to date.
With the Phantoms, Morin has a goal and four assists for five points as well as 22 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in 10 games.
Martel has been a force for the Phantoms since the beginning of the season. He scored 14 goals in his first 17 games of the season with the Phantoms. His 14 goals this season lead the AHL.
The 22-year-old forward has played in 157 career games with the Phantoms over four seasons. He has scored 20 or more goals in each of his last two seasons.
The Flyers start a home-and-home with the Islanders on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. They also face the Islanders on Friday afternoon at home at 4 p.m.
