For the first few games of the season, the Flyers carried eight defensemen. It was after they returned home ahead of last Saturday's home opener that they sent Sam Morin to the Phantoms.
There was no corresponding move however, and that left the Flyers with 22 players on their roster, one short of the maximum.
After spending the first two weeks of the season in the minors, forward Matt Read was recalled by the Flyers on Thursday, bringing the roster to 23 once again.
Read played in five games with the Phantoms, scoring a goal and taking seven shots. Read played in four preseason games for the Flyers and was placed on waivers prior to the season opener on Oct. 3. Read cleared and was able to report to the Phantoms for the start of the season.
Read is available for Thursday night's game against Nashville. Wayne Simmonds left Tuesday's game with an injury, but skated in a full practice on Thursday morning, indicating that he will play in Thursday night's game, so it's very unclear if Read slots into the lineup at all in his return to Philadelphia.
The Flyers host the Nashville Predators at 7 p.m. on Thursday night in the third game of a five-game homestand.
