The Flyers used the trade of Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn to create cap space so they could make essentially any move they wanted.
They have made one of the moves previously not possible due to their tight salary cap woes.
GM Ron Hextall announced that forward Sam Gagner has been recalled by the Flyers.
Gagner returns to the Flyers after spending nine games in Lehigh Valley with the Phantoms, scoring one goal and adding five assists. Gagner has played in 18 games with the Flyers, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
The call-up comes on the heels of an injury to Sean Couturier, who will miss Thursday night's game with a lower-body injury. While the extent of the injury is not known — the Flyers only announced that Couturier was out for Thursday — this could have to do with the injury.
Gagner could play in Thursday's game if he arrives in Pittsburgh in time, but if not, it would open the door for Jordan Weal's Flyers debut.
The Flyers face the Penguins at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.
