Going into the final week of the preseason, the Flyers effectively needed to make three more cuts to have their final roster in place. After two more preseason games, leaving two remaining on the schedule, that number is down to two.
The Flyers returned forward Mikhail Vorobyev to the Phantoms after he was loaned to the team on Tuesday to play in the Flyers 4-3 overtime win over the Rangers. They also sent Mike Vecchione to the Phantoms, bringing the roster to 25.
Vecchione was in the lineup on Tuesday, but seemed lost in the shuffle as the Flyers put their focus on other players. Ultimately, he was a longshot to make the team in the final few days, so the move was fairly expected.
The Flyers signed Vecchione late last season after his college career with Union came to a close. Vecchione played in two NHL games at the end of last season.
The move leaves 15 forwards and eight defensemen on the roster with two preseason games to go. The Flyers next take the ice on Thursday against the Boston Bruins at home.
