The best player on the board with the seventh overall pick just happened to be a defenseman the Flyers coveted.
With the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, the Flyers bolstered the blue line by selecting Russian defenseman Ivan Provorov.
Provorov played for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL last season and is highly regarded as one of the top defensemen in the draft. The Flyers met with Provorov twice between the combine and the draft.
Provorov is a 6’0”, 201-pound force on the blue line, with the ability to command the defensive zone while begin very offensively gifted. In the 2014-15 season, his first with the Wheat Kings and second in North America, Provorov scored 15 goals and added 46 assists in 60 games.
Stay tuned for a scouting report on the Flyers top pick. The Flyers also hold the 29th overall selection on the draft’s first night.
