The biggest question facing the Flyers offseason was not if but when would the Flyers re-sign forward Brayden Schenn. The question that usually quickly followed was what that contract would look like.
We now have answers to both questions.
The Flyers signed Schenn to a four-year, $20.5 million deal on Monday according to GM Ron Hextall. The deal has an average annual value of $5.125 million.
Schenn was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing at 9 a.m. on Monday, but the two sides have agreed to terms in the final moments before the hearing.
The 24-year-old forward had a career year in 2015-16, scoring 26 goals and posting 59 points, both career highs.
In five seasons with the Flyers, Schenn has scored 84 goals and added 107 assists for 191 points in 345 games.
Schenn was acquired as part of the deal that sent Mike Richards to Los Angeles and also brought current teammate Wayne Simmonds to Philadelphia in 2011.
Schenn was one of the last remaining restricted free agents to re-sign. The only restricted free agent remaining is defenseman Brandon Manning, who has an arbitration hearing scheduled for next Tuesday, Aug. 2.
