A busy Monday continued for the Flyers into the evening hours. After finalizing the trade that sent Scott Hartnell to Columbus for R.J. Umberger, the Flyers locked up another forward.
Brayden Schenn was top priority for the Flyers in the offseason according to new GM Ron Hextall. That priority is now checked off the list.
Schenn and the Flyers reached agreement on a contract extension on a mulit-year deal according to sources. It is a two-year deal worth an average annual salary of $2.5 million.
The 22-year-old forward had 20 goals and 21 assists for the Flyers in the 2013-14 season for a total of 41 points, marking a career year for Schenn.
Schenn's extension comes exactly three years after he was acquired by the Flyers in a trade that sent Mike Richards to the Los Angeles Kings. The Flyers also acquired Wayne Simmonds in the deal.
In three seasons with the Flyers, Schenn has scored 40 goals and added 45 assists for 85 points in 183 games.
