When the Flyers acquired Andrew MacDonald at the trade deadline, there was hope that they had found more than just a rental player. They wanted a long-term defenseman.

On Tuesday, they got that.

With the Flyers playoff run preparing to start on Thursday, the team signed MacDonald to a six-year, $30 million extension.

MacDonald has played 19 games with the Flyers, picking up four assists. The 27-year-old defenseman is also averaging a whopping 22 minutes of ice time per game, proving to be one of the more durable pieces to the Flyers blue line.
