The Flyers top pick at the 2017 NHL Draft officially put pen to paper on Monday.
The team announced on Monday morning that second overall pick Nolan Patrick has signed an entry-level deal. The deal is worth an average annual value of $925,000, which equals the deal that first overall pick Nico Hischier signed with the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
Patrick, 18, was regarded as one of the top two players in the Draft as buzz heated up in the months prior to the event in Chicago that commenced last month. The Flyers had luck on their side when they claimed the second overall pick out of the lottery.
Patrick's path to the NHL has been well documented. The center tore up the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings two seasons ago, scoring 41 goals and adding 61 assists for 102 points in 72 games. In a year where he battled injuries, Patrick still had 20 goals and 46 points in 33 games in the 2016-17 season. He also served as captain of the Wheat Kings last season.
One of those lingering injuries was a misdiagnosed sports hernia, which Patrick had repaired with surgery on June 13, just 10 days prior to the NHL Draft. As a result, Patrick did not participate in the on-ice portion of Development Camp a week ago, but is expected to start skating again in the near future.
Patrick is expected to be fully healthy in time for training camp and compete for a roster spot on the Flyers in 2017-18.
