With less than 24 hours until the NHL Draft and just over a week before free agency, the Flyers got started on their offseason agenda on Thursday night.
The Flyers have signed defenseman Radko Gudas to a multi-year extension, GM Ron Hextall announced.
The deal is a four-year deal with an average annual value of $3 to $3.5 million per year, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie, which puts the total value of the deal in the $12 to $14 million range. According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, the deal is structured so Gudas' cap hit in 2016-17 will be $2.5 million with a $1.5 million signing bonus. Gudas will make $3.5 million in 2017-18, $3.4 million in 2018-19 and $2.5 million in 2019-20. Johnston adds that the AAV is $3.35 million, with a total value of $13.4 million.
Gudas scored five goals and added nine assists for 14 points in 76 games with the Flyers last season. He led the Flyers with 304 hits, which ranked second in the NHL, and was second on the team with 157 blocked shots.
He was acquired at the trade deadline of the 2014-15 season in a deal that sent Braydon Coburn to the Tampa Bay Lightning and also brought in two draft picks in return.
In 202 games with the Lightning prior to the trade, Gudas had scored 12 goals and added 34 assists for 46 points.
