The wait is finally over. The Flyers have reached a deal with Travis Konecny.
Konecny has signed a six-year deal worth $33 million, an average annual value of $5.5 million.
Negotiations with Konecny had moved into the start of training camp. Konecny missed the first four days of training camp and the first preseason game on Monday, though it wasn’t a certainty he would have played in Monday’s game.
“We are happy to have Travis under contract for the next six seasons,” GM Chuck Fletcher said in a statement. “Travis has shown progression in each of his three seasons and is an integral part of our group of young forwards. His speed, skill and tenacity sets him apart in today’s NHL.”
Konecny, 22, was selected in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft with the 24th overall pick. In his three seasons in the NHL, Konecny has scored 59 goals and 124 points. In the last two seasons, he had 48 goals — 24 in each season — with 43 of them coming at even strength.
The $5.5 million cap hit leaves the Flyers with just over $1 million in cap space.
The news of Konecny’s deal comes on the heels of Ivan Provorov signing a six-year deal on Thursday with an AAV of $6.75 million. Both contracts lock up the Flyers two first-round picks from 2015 through the 2024-25 season.
“I’m really excited about signing with the Flyers and being able to call Philadelphia home for the next six years,” Konecny said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get back with my teammates and to start a new relationship with the coaching staff. It’s on me now to work hard and make up for the couple of days I wasn’t able to be here.”
Konecny will likely join the team on Tuesday and take part in a few practices before being ready for a game. The Flyers open the preseason on Monday night at home against the Islanders, the first of four preseason games this week.
