The Flyers open the preseason on Monday night by splitting the camp roster for a pair of games against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders, both on the road and both starting at 7 p.m.
The Flyers used Sunday's practice at training camp to scrimmage, trying to simulate game situations and get players in game shape. Many of the players who were on the ice for Sunday's scrimmage will play on Monday night.
The rosters for the split squad games are below.
The roster for the Flyers against the Devils is as follows:
Forwards: Scott Laughton, Andy Miele, Corban Knight, Petr Straka, Mark Zengerle, Taylor Leier, Roman Lyubimov, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Travis Konecny, Danick Martel, Connor Bunnaman, Anthony Salinitri
Defensemen: Brandon Manning, T.J. Brennan, Robert Hagg, Jesper Pettersson, Philippe Myers, Ivan Provorov
Goalies: Alex Lyon, Mark Dekanich
The roster for the Flyers against the Islanders is as follows:
Forwards: Jordan Weal, Colin McDonald, Chris Conner, Nick Cousins, Greg Carey, Tyrell Goulbourne, Radel Fazleev, Samuel Dove-McFalls, Steven Swavely, Pascal Laberge, Carsen Twarynski, Kevin Sundher
Defensemen: Michael Del Zotto, Mark Alt, Will O'Neill, Sam Morin, Travis Sanheim, Reece Willcox
Goalies: Anthony Stolarz, Martin Ouellette
With four total games in three nights, the Flyers will get plenty of work and plenty of opportunities to rotate players into the lineup. As head coach Dave Hakstol has noted, this is a great opportunity for young players like Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny to stand out and get some solid playing time.
But this is also the beginning of a new season, the start of the journey to repeating last season's success. That starts with building the roster for the 2016-17 season, and while most of the pieces are in place, there are always possibilities that anything could change.
It's sure to be an interesting road and for 40 players, the road begins tonight.
