If it wasn't finished following Saturday's loss to the Islanders, it certain seems like it now. For the fourth time this season, the Flyers fell to the defending Stanley Cup champions, and with six games to go, the margin is too much to overcome.

The Flyers were defeated by the Capitals, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Capitals got on the board first with a deflection by Tom Wilson with his 22nd of the season just 3:52 into the game. Both teams finished the first period with 11 shots.

Midway through the second, the Capitals extended the lead with another tip-in goal. Travis Boyd got the tip off a Matt Niskanen shot to make it 2-0.

Late in the period, the Flyers cut the lead to one with a power-play goal by Jake Voracek. It was Voracek's 20th goal of the season, giving the Flyers five 20-goal scorers.

In the third, the Capitals essentially put the game away with a breakaway goal by Jakub Vrana, his 22nd of the season, at 8:07 of the period.

Braden Holtby was in control from there, making 35 saves in the win. Brian Elliott was solid making 27 saves on 30 shots.

The Flyers still trail the final playoff spot by seven points. Montreal and Columbus both play on Sunday night, so the margin could increase to nine points by the end of the night with six games remaining on the schedule.

The Flyers are off until Wednesday night when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m.
