A few weeks ago, reports surfaced that the Flyers would be starting the 2019-20 season overseas in Europe as part of the NHL’s Global Series.

On Thursday, the NHL officially announced that the Flyers will face the Chicago Blackhawks to open the 2019-20 season in Prague, Czech Republic. The Flyers face the Blackhawks on Thursday night at United Center.

The Flyers and Blackhawks will play their season opener in Prague on Friday, Oct. 4 at O2 Arena. The Flyers will also complete their training camp in Switzerland, playing one exhibition game on Monday, Sept. 30 against Lausanne HC.

The choice to hold the games in Prague is because of a direct connection to players on both sides. Flyers Jake Voracek and Radko Gudas are from Czech Republic, as are Blackhawks players Dominik Kahun and David Kampf.

This marks the first game for either team played outside of North America in franchise history.
