PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers' season-long four-game winning streak was halted Thursday, as they fell 3-2 to the New York Islanders in a shootout. They now have points in five-consecutive games, going 4-0-1 in that span.

Chris VandeVelde's eighth goal of the season gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead with 8:22 to play in the second period, but two Islander goals in the span of two minutes — courtesy of Mikhail Grabovski and Cal Clutterbuck — made it a 2-2 game with 1:13 to go in the second stanza. Clutterbuck also added the game-winner in the shootout, while Frans Nielsen and Wayne Simmonds also scored in the seven-round affair.

Vinny Lecavalier also added two assists, bringing his total to nine. He also recorded a two-point night for the second time this season, and set up a Nick Schultz one-timer to open the scoring — the second marker of the season for Schultz.

In a bid for his second shutout over the Islanders this season, Steve Mason turned away 28 of 30 shots. His shutout streak — spanning back to the first period of last Thursday's 5-2 win over Winnipeg — ended at a total of 139:51. Prior to Thursday, Mason hadn't allowed a regulation or overtime goal to the Islanders since Jan. 18. 2014 — a 6-4 win.

Jaroslav Halak also made 16 saves on 18 Flyers shots, as the Orange and Black failed to reach the 20-shot mark for the second-consecutive game.

Both teams were also granted one power play for the evening, and neither was able to capitalize. Ryan White and Matt Martin also dropped the gloves at the 2:11 mark of the first period, as both teams finished with seven penalty minutes.

The Orange and Black also announced Thursday that Kimmo Timonen has been cleared to resume skating, and will take the ice for the first time in a long time tomorrow.

Next up for the Flyers is another Metropolitan Division matchup, as they take on Washington in a Sunday matinee — the first game of a quick four-game road trip. They return to Wells Fargo Center on Feb. 17 against Columbus.
