According to the Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly, 24-year-old reliever and former Phillie, Kyle Simon, has been suspended 50 games for his second positive test for drug of abuse.

Simon was acquired by the Phillies on June 30, 2012, along with catcher Gabriel Lino, in exchange for future Hall of Famer, Jim Thome. He was selected by the Orioles in the fourth round of the 2011 amateur draft.

Combined with the Reading Phillies and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs over 104 games (157.2 innings), Simon finished 8-10, allowing 65 earned runs for an approximate 4.12 ERA. He struck out 94 batters and walked 48.

Last month, the right hander was drafted by the Rockies from the Phillies' organization in the minor league Rule-5 draft. Yesterday, he was released in likely anticipation of today's announcement.
