It took him two previous tries that both resulted in losses, but last night 49 year-old Jamie Moyer took to the hill in Denver and made history. Jamie Moyer became the oldest pitcher to ever win a major league game at the age of 49 years and 151 days. Moyer beat out former Brooklyn Dodger Jack Quinn, who at age 49 years and 70 days, won a major league game. This remarkable feat came after Moyer shut down the San Diego Padres through seven superb innings of baseball. Moyer allowed six hits and two un-earned runs whilst striking out just one Padre.
With Moyer becoming the oldest pitcher to ever win a game, he keeps adding to his storied career. With his win last night, Moyer tied Hall of Famer Jim Palmer with 268 career wins. Moyer's career record of 268-206 may not be the best, but it is pretty cool that a guy who should be long retired by now is striking out guys who are young enough to be his grand kids.
Congrats, Jamie. You are simply amazing.
