Little did Philadelphia Phillies fans know that during the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at the home of the New York Mets, Citi Field, that the club's perennial right fielder for years to come would be Bryce Harper — not the rising, home-grown prospect in Domonic Brown.
Of course, there were bumps and bruises in the five seasons in between, rotating in right fielders, such as Delmon Young, that simply were liabilities in the field, and did not live up to full potential on offense, either.
Brown's Phillies career, and overall MLB career, would end relatively quick over the next two seasons, with no additional MLB All-Star nods either. After logging 39 home runs and 141 RBI over his first 286 career games from 2010 to 2013, the Zephyrhills, Florida, native would produce just 15 home runs and 88 RBI in 207 games between the 2014-15 seasons. He would play for the Toronto Blue Jays and Colorado Rockies Triple-A affiliates in 2016 and 2017, respectively, before ultimately relocating south of the border to play in Mexico full-time starting in 2018.
Brown's career has revived in Mexico; in 52 games this season alone with the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, he is slashing .306/.369/.597 with 12 doubles, 16 home runs, 50 RBI, 22 walks and 34 strikeouts. In recognition for his performance, the Mexican Baseball League has recently announced that Brown has been named to the Mexican Baseball League's 87th All-Star Game to be held at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico.

The All-Star nod is Brown's first of his professional career since 2013 with the Phillies, and his third overall. In 2009, Brown was also named an All-Star for his contributions with the Phillies' Advanced-A affiliate Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League.
Brown is described as quickly becoming "one of the players to follow by the border fans." It is great to see Brown's career revived in Mexico; while it would have been great to see his 2013 success continue over into 2014 and beyond, it simply did not work out. Having Harper for this and the next 12 seasons is surely a great "Plan B."
