The 27-year-old right hander was out of options, and thus had to clear waivers before being able to return to Buffalo Bisons, the Blue Jays' triple-A affiliate where Drabek made a total of 36 appearances with over the 2013-2014 seasons.
On December 16, 2009, Drabek was traded by the Phillies to the Toronto Blue Jays, along with Travis d'Arnaud and Michael Taylor, in exchange for ace Roy Halladay and cash considerations. Ironically, Taylor, 29, retired from baseball earlier this month after signing this offseason with Drabek's new team, the White Sox.
In five seasons primarily as a starter with the Blue Jays from 2010-2014, Drabek went 8-15 with a 5.27 ERA. He allowed 101 earned runs in 172.1 innings of work, and struck-out nearly the same amount of batters that he walked, 118 and 111 respectively.
Drabek, 27, was drafted 18th overall in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft. He is the son of Doug Drabek, 1990 National League Cy Young Award winner with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In six games this Spring Training over seven innings of relief, Drabek allowed two earned runs on seven hits and three walks, and struck out seven batters.
