One of the most talked about trades during Ruben Amaro Jr.'s tenure with the Phillies was sending Cliff Lee to the Mariners in exchange for three prospects, including towering right-hander Phillippe Aumont. At the time, the Phillies had just traded for Roy Halladay and decided to deal Cliff Lee in an attempt to replenish the farm. In doing so, Amaro made one of the worst deals during his time as the Phils general manager.
Phillippe Aumont was the prized prospect of the trade, a first round pick back in 2007 for the Mariners. The righty never pitched up to his potential over the years, posting a 1-6 record to go along with an ERA of 6.80 in 43.2 innings with the Phillies. Throughout his time in the Phillies system, he struggled with command issues that he couldn't solve. Today, the 27-year-old has announced his retirement after a short stint in the White Sox organization.

Aumont seemed to have one last chance to impress in 2015 with Philadelphia after posting a 2.35 ERA in 14 games with the Ironpigs, 10 of which were starts. He was called upon to make a spot start for the Phils and lasted just four innings, allowing six runs on five hits while walking seven. That was the end of his career in the Phillies organization as they designated him for assignment after that game.
Aumont landed with the Blue Jays organization in July and went 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA with Triple-A Buffalo. He was released in August before signing a minor league deal with the White Sox signed that included an invite to Spring Training. Aumont was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte to start the year. In 10 games, he went 0-2 with a 12.27 ERA before hanging up the cleats for good.
Over his career, Aumont went 20-40 in the minor leagues with an ERA of 4.17.
The two other players the Phillies received for Lee never amounted to much either. Tyson Gillies got into trouble with the law, suffered a handful of injuries and never produced consistently at the plate. He was released in June of 2014. J.C. Ramirez is still playing, but hasn't had much success in the big leagues. He's currently with the Reds organization at Triple-A. In 57 Major League games, Ramirez has a 2-5 record and a 6.10 ERA. He made 18 appearances for the Phillies back in 2014, allowing 20 earned runs in 24 innings.
