Poor David Herndon. He is being tossed around like a frisbee. The Toronto Blue Jays were the latest team to try to pass Herndon through waivers, and like the Phillies, it did not work. He probably will be passed around again.
It was the New York Yankees this time who claimed Herndon. With Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera floating in free agency, the Yankees had roster space. It remains to be seen if they still will once they are done signing players.
For two more seasons Herndon can be sent back and forth to the minors. This makes him a possible commodity to a team looking for depth. For this reason I thought he was helpful to the Phillies; they could count on him being reliever number 8 and slate him for the minors. When someone struggles or is injured, he would be there.
