Former Phillies starter Oswalt to play in NBC World Series

Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt reportedly has agreed to play with a group of former MLB players in the 2016 National Baseball Congress World Series.

Clemens, Ankiel, Uggla and more blasts from MLB's past have joined forces for the National Baseball Congress World Series, held in Wichita from July 29 to Aug. 3. The NBC is typically a summer tournament for college players, but this year, a team of former Major League stars will take on the kids in a battle for generational supremacy. The MLB roster features 11 former All-Stars in total, from Josh Beckett to Roy Oswalt to J.D. Drew to Adam Everett.

According to the website for the National Baseball Congress, the tournament takes place each year in Wichita, Kansas, and it is used to both popularize the NBC itself and to give the area a premier tournament that features some of the top college baseball players that America has to offer.

Of course, the team Oswalt is playing for won't feature college talents, but rather former major leaguers. As mentioned above, Roger Clemens will highlight a team that also is expected to feature Chipper Jones,  Tim Hudson, Adam LaRoche and more. Oswalt is one of six former Phillies that Kansas.com says will be on the team, as Laynce Nix, Jayson Nix, Nate Robertson, Koyie Hill and Pete Orr are also expected to play for the team, which appears to be going by the name "the Stars."

Oswalt, 38, pitched in the Major Leagues from 2001-2013, finishing his career with 162 wins, a 3.36 ERA, three All-Star appearances and six top 10 finishes in Cy Young award voting. Though he spent a majority of his career with the Houston Astros, Oswalt joined the Phillies in the summer of 2010, becoming part of "H20" with Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels. Oswalt was also one of "the four aces" in 2011 after the Phillies landed Cliff Lee in free-agency.
