On Monday night, both Joel Embiid and Dario Saric of the Philadelphia 76ers had their sites set on winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award, but the league presented it to Bucks' guard Malcolm Brogdon instead, which was not a great choice according to Sports Talk Philly's John Williams.
"I think the same reevaluation of Rookie of the Year award must be done as well. It should be awarded to the best rookie, regardless of his team's success. And after looking at each of the rookies and what they accomplished this year, Brogdon's team making the playoffs had to be a big factor for many of the voters."
The last Sixer to win Rookie of the Year was Michael Carter-Williams in 2013-14 and since his departure from Philadelphia, his stock has fallen with both Milwaukee and Chicago. Since being traded to the Bulls, he's played in 45 games averaging just 6.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, shooting under 37 percent from the floor. The Chicago Bulls have opted not to give MCW a qualifying offer, making the 25-year-old an unrestricted free agent.

Carter-Williams' qualifying offer would have been worth a little over $4.1 million. In 189 career games, MCW is averaging 13 points, 5.4 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game.
