When the Phillies traded for utility infielder John McDonald, many speculated that utility infielder Freddy Galvis could be headed to the minors. After the Phillies 6-4 loss to the Dodgers Thursday, Galvis was optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.
Presumably, the move is to get Galvis regular playing time. This could precipitate some possible trade deadline moves by the Phillies that could open up a spot for Galvis in the Phillies starting infield. It could be nice to see what a double play combination of Galvis and Hernandez can do.
In his 2013 stint with the Phillies, Galvis hit .207 with four home runs and 14 RBI, playing third base, second base, shortstop, and left field.
