The Philadelphia 76ers tip-off their second Summer League game in Utah on Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. against the Jazz. Markelle Fultz is expected to play, but will likely sit out the teams' next game on the schedule. Fultz looked strong in his professional debut, scoring 17 points and tallying three blocks. The No. 1 overall pick is reportedly going to sign his rookie contract this weekend when the Sixers open play in the Las Vegas portion of the Summer League. Here's the latest from Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Top draft pick Markelle Fultz is expected to sign his 76ers contract in Las Vegas at the NBA Summer League.
Sources say one hold-up is that Fultz wants his mother, Ebony Fultz, to attend the signing. She will be in Las Vegas for the summer league. The Sixers are competing in the Utah Summer League and will open Vegas play Saturday.
The 19-year-old guard out of the University of Washington is set to earn $5.8 million during the upcoming season after being selected first overall by the Sixers on June 22. Philadelphia can pay him up to 20 percent more than that figure and likely will. According to Pompey, teams normally require the player to do a certain amount of community service or play in a second season of Summer League to earn that extra 20 percent.
In his one-and-done year with the Huskies, Fultz averaged 23.3 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Per HoopsRumors.com, Fultz is eligible for a little more than $7MM in his first season and more than $37.4MM over four years. Like all contracts for first-rounders, Fultz’s deal will include two guaranteed seasons and two team options. He will be eligible for an extension in 2020.
