Several Flyers youngins were active and productive in Canadian Hockey League playoff action, while both teams in the pipeline split weekend games. How did tomorrow's Flyers fare? Check back, naturally, after the jump.
Juniors:
Samuel Morin has two points in the QMJHL President's Cup playoffs so far, both coming off of assists. His Rimouski Océanic currently hold a 2-0 series lead over Victoriaville, winning 4-3 in overtime on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.
Danick Martel has two goals and an assist in the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada's series with Gatineau. That series is split at one game apiece, with the Armada winning 4-1 on Friday and Olympiques winning 4-1 the next night.
Nicolas Aubé-Kubel has a goal and an assist, as his Val-d'or Foreurs are split 1-1 with Rouyn-Noranda. The Foreurs beat the Huskies 6-2 on Friday, and were trampled 8-3 on Saturday.
In the Western League tournament, Tyrell Goulbourne's Kelowna Rockets hold a 2-0 series lead over Tri-City. Golbourne's got just an assist to his credit so far, as his Rockets shut the Americans out twice — 6-o in Friday's opener and 3-0 on Saturday.
Radel Fazleev has four assists for Calgary, as their series with Kootenay is tied at 1. Travis Sanheim is off to a slow playoff start, as he has been held off the scoresheet with a plus-1 rating thus far. The Hitmen dropped the series opener 4-3 on Friday, but rebounded with a sound 3-2 win over the Ice on Sunday.
American League:
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms snapped their four-game winning streak Saturday, with a 4-1 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Scott Laughton and Jason Akeson each recorded three-point nights — with Laughton scoring twice and adding an assist, and Akeson posting three assists. Jesper Pettersson and Steven Delisle also scored their respective second goals of the season, while Rob Zepp saved 33 of 34 pucks.
The Phantoms were unable to capitalize on momentum from their significant divisional win, as they fell 3-1 to AHL-leading Manchester on Sunday. Laughton scored his third goal of the weekend, while Zepp made 30 saves on 32 shots. The game also saw the ever-notorious Paul Bissonnette score his first goal of the season.
With a 30-29-6-1 record and 67 points, the Phantoms find themselves 13 points behind Portland for the conference's final playoff spot. They begin a three-game road trip Wednesday, visiting Norfolk at 7:15.
ECHL:
The playoff-bound Reading Royals split a pair of weekend games, beating Indy 3-2 on Friday and falling 5-2 to Wheeling on Saturday. Olivier Labelle, Jordan Heywood and Brett Flemming each scored, while Ian Watters registered two assists and Martin Ouellette posted a whopping 40 saves on 42 shots.
Flemming scored his eighth of the season on Saturday, while David Marshall scored as well and Connor Knapp saved 24 of 28 pucks. Marshall's goal stands as one of the most interesting of the season, as the Nailers — who were set to go on a power play — pulled goalie Eric Hartzell, and misplayed a puck in the offensive zone that trailed into the empty net. Marshall was the last Royal to touch the puck, and thus received credit.
The Royals (42-18-4-2) sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, and if the playoffs were to start today, they'd face South Carolina in the first round. Their road trip continues this week, as head to Florida with two dates against the first-place Everblades on Wednesday and Friday.
