In this week's Future Flyers Report, we have a big weekend for Nicolas Aube-Kubel, some extra hockey for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and a resounding win for the Reading Royals. Check out how tomorrow's Flyers have done after the jump.
Juniors:
Nicolas Aubé-Kubel recorded five assists over the weekend — three in Friday's 5-4 win over Drummondville, and two in Sunday's tense 8-7 shootout win over Sherbrooke. His Val-d'or Foreurs have now won three games in a row.
Samuel Morin's Rimouski Océanic won both of their games this weekend — 7-4 over Saint John and 4-2 over Rouyn-Noranda. Morin recorded an assist against the Sea Dogs, and received a game misconduct in the third period for a check from behind. He was not in the lineup in the win over the Huskies.
Travis Sanheim and Radel Fazleev split a pair of weekend games with the Calgary Hitmen — losing 4-2 to Saskatoon on Friday and beating Medicine Hat 2-1 on Saturday. Sanheim was held without a point in both games, while Fazleev recorded a point against the Tigers.
American League:
The Phantoms went 2-1-0 this weekend, losing 3-2 to Binghamton on Friday, beating Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday and beating Springfield 5-4 in overtime on Sunday. Nick Cousins, Brandon Manning and Jason Akeson each recorded two points in the loss to the Senators, while Rob Zepp made 29 saves on 32 shots.
Akeson scored two goals against the Penguins, while Taylor Leier and Adam Comrie scored as well. Noted Pierre-Edouard Bellemare punching bag Bobby Farnham also scored his fourth of the season for the Baby Pens, while Leier and Petr Staka added tallies in the shootout. In his second start of the weekend, Zepp posted 30 saves on 34 shots.
Zack Stortini scored twice on Sunday, while Leier and Akeson scored as well. Andrew Gordon scored his 15th of the season just 24 seconds into the extra period, and Zepp made 27 saves on 31 shots in his final start of the weekend.
Despite their win over the Penguins, the Phantoms (24-21-4-1) still sit nine points behind them in the East Division standings (53 points), and are 14 points behind first-place Hershey.
ECHL:
Unfortunately for the Royals, their franchise-record 12-game winning streak came to an end on Friday, losing 3-2 to Wheeling in overtime. Cam Reid and Michael Caruso each scored, while Connor Knapp made 32 saves on 35 shots.
They did bounce back on Saturday though, with a 7-3 win over Elmira. Pat Mullane scored twice, while Olivier Labelle, Adam Hughesman, Reid, Maxime Lamarche and Sean Wiles each lit the lamp. Kenny Reiter turned away 34 of 37 pucks.
The Royals (34-13-2-1) now hold a three-point lead over Florida for first place in the East Division, and their 71 points are good enough for a two-point lead over Fort Wayne for tops in the Eastern Conference.
