The Flyers signed two players to entry-level contracts this week — Danick Martel of the QMJHL's Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, and Cornell University's Cole Bardeau. Martel's 48 goals are tied for second in the 'Q,' while his 102 points are good for second in the league as well. Stunningly enough, he's posted those numbers in 64 games this season.
Bardreau posted five goals and a team-leading 22 points in his final season with the Big Red, and also served as alternate captain. The Fairport, N.Y. native cut his teeth in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, and won the 2013 World Juniors tournament alongside Shayne Gostisbehere.
Juniors:
Nicolas Aubé-Kubel scored twice — his 34th and 35th tallies of the season — as his Val-d'or Foreurs beat Drummondville, 5-2.
Samuel Morin recorded his 23rd assist of the season in Rimouski Océanic's lone game this week, a 4-3 shootout win against Chicoutimi.
American League:
The Phantoms played just one game this week, beating Toronto 4-3. Nick Cousins recorded a hat trick (his second of the season, on a penalty shot nonetheless), while assisting on a Jason Akeson goal. Andrew Gordon recorded three assists, while Rob Zepp turned away 28 of 31 pucks.
The team heads to Providence tonight, and Bridgeport tomorrow.
With a 27-24-6-1 record and 61 points, the Phantoms still sit third in the East Division. They also sit nine points behind Springfield for the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot.
ECHL:
The Royals were off all week, but play a full slate this weekend — facing Elmira in New York tonight, and returning to Santander Arena for two games against Kalamazoo on Saturday and Sunday.
Because of their week off, they sit two points behind Florida for first place in the East Division (with 80 points), and third place in the Eastern Conference between the tied Everblades and Fort Wayne Komets.
