Future Flyers Report: Gostisbehere and Parks to the Frozen Four, Stolarz Suspended, Goumas signed

Several of the Philadelphia Flyers' prospects are succeeding in the postseason this year, as every prospect of the Orange and Black playing in the CHL has advanced past the opening round of the postseason. Outside of the CHL, Shayne Gostisbehere is having an incredible year at Union College and has led his team to the Frozen Four. On top of the prospects' postseason success, Anthony Stolarz was handed a suspension this week and the organization signed a young forward out of the University of New Hampshire.

Not only did he help his team reach the Frozen Four, Gostisbehere did it in remarkable fashion this week, as he had a memorable sequence of defensive stops in one of the school's wins. In their 3-1 win over the Providence Friars on Saturday, Gostisbehere dropped to his knees during a goalmouth scramble in his defensive end and made several saves to allow Union College to leave the first period up by a goal. Union College's victory on Saturday, which sent them to the Frozen Four, came one day after Gostisbehere helped to eliminate Nick Luukko and the University of Vermont from extending their postseason run, as the Flying Dutchmen beat the Catamounts 5-2. Ghost and his Union College teammates will take on Johnny Gaudreau and Boston College on April 10th at the Wells Fargo Center.

Gostisbehere isn't the only Flyers' prospect that will be taking part in this year's Frozen Four in Philadelphia, as Michael Parks and the University of North Dakota have also advanced to the latter stages of the NCAA tournament. With a 5-2 win over Wisconsin in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal on Friday and a 2-1 win that required two overtimes on Saturday against Ferris State in the Regional Championship, Parks and his teammates are set to take on the University of Minnesota on April 10th in the Frozen Four. Parks had a goal and an assist in the semifinal victory, but was held without a point in the Regional Championship.

If Gostisbehere and Union College defeat Boston College and Michael Parks and the University of North Dakota beat the University of Minnesota, Gostisbehere and Parks will face off for the NCAA title on April 12th at the Wells Fargo Center.

In the OHL, both Scott Laughton and Anthony Stolarz have helped their teams advance to the second round of the postseason.

Laughton and the Oshawa Generals swept the Mississauga Steelheads in the opening round and are still waiting to see who they will play in the next round. Laughton had two goals and four helpers, as well as a plus-5 rating in the four-game series. With the North Bay Battalion and Niagara IceDogs heading to a Game 7 tonight, as well as the series between the Kingston Frontenacs and Peterborough Petes, a lot still has to be decided in the OHL’s Eastern Conference playoff picture.

As for Stolarz, the Flyers' top goaltending prospect was dealt an eight-game suspension for his slash to the back of Joshua Ho-Sang's head in Game 3 of the series between the London Knights and the Windsor Spitfires. Since London completed the sweep in Game 4 of the series, Stolarz still has to serve seven games in the suspension, as the Knights prepare to take on the Guelph Storm in the Western Conference semifinals.

In the WHL, both Taylor Leier and Tyrell Goulbourne helped their squads advance to the conference semifinals.

Leier helped the Portland Winterhawks sweep the Vancouver Giants in the opening round of the postseason, as the Flyers' prospect had two goals and four assists in the series. Leier and Portland will face the Victoria Royals in Round 2, as they host the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday.

As for Goulbourne, the gritty forward helped the Kelowna Rockets beat the Tri-City Americans in a five-game series. Goulbourne had an assist and five PIMs in the series, as the Rockets will face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the next round hosting Game 1 and Game 2 on Thursday and Saturday.

In the QMJHL, Samuel Morin and the Rimouski Oceanic have advanced to the quarterfinals after they swept the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Morin had an amazing series, as he had four goals and two helpers in the sweep. Rimouski Oceanic will face the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the next round, as Rimouski Oceanic will host Games 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday.

Aside from the NCAA and CHL postseason, other big news surrounding Flyers' prospects this week was the signing of undrafted forward Kevin Goumas. A 22-year-old left winger, Goumas had 52 points and 42 PIMs in 40 games at the University of New Hampshire this season. Considered undersized at 5'10" and 161 pounds, Goumas led UNH in scoring over the last two seasons. Goumas, who inked an amateur try-out contract with the Adirondack Phantoms, had one goal in two games with the Flyers' affiliate in his first few professional games.
