In this Monday's edition of Future Flyers Report, we take a look at this past weekend for the Flyers of Tomorrow — which featured a matchup between two junior prospects, honoring of a legend and a two-game set in New York.
Juniors:
Rimouski Oceanic and the Val-d'Or Foreurs met Saturday in another matchup pitting Samuel Morin against Nicolas Aube-Kubel, with the Oceanic winning 5-3. Aube-Kubel scored a goal, while Morin finished with with an assist and a minus-one effort.
Additionally, Aube-Kubel recorded two goals and five points the previous night, in the Foreurs' 10-2 rout of Victoriaville.
American League:
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms were active all weekend, playing three games. They lost their first game of 2015 on Friday night, dropping a 3-2 contest to Albany — a game that saw Nick Cousins and Andrew Gordon score. Gordon's tally at the 11:30 mark of the third period was his second point of the game.
The team also honored Bob Clarke on Saturday night, for his contributions to the 1997-98 and 2004-05 Calder Cup championship teams. They romped Binghamton — a team coached by ex-Flyers defenseman Luke Richardson — by a score of 5-1, with Cousins recording a hat trick. Tough customers Zack Stortini and Jay Rosehill added goals as well, while Gordon and Brandon Manning recorded multi-point nights. Additionally, the game featured a slew of third-period fights.
In their final game of the weekend on Sunday, the Phantoms lost 5-2 to Hershey. Gordon and Oliver Lauridsen recorded the lone Phantoms goals.
The Phantoms (19-14-4-1) sit in third place in the East Division, with 43 points — one point behind Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and three points behind the first-place Bears. They're off until Wednesday, when they take on the Bears in the second half of a home-and-home series.
ECHL:
The Reading Royals headed to New York this weekend to take on the Elmira Jackals for two games, splitting each of them. They lost 4-2 on Friday, but won 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday — a game that saw them trailing 3-1 in the third period.
The Royals and Jackals also met in a Monday afternoon matinee at Reading's Santander Arena, with the Royals winning 4-2. With a 23-13-1-1 record and 48 points, they sit in third place in the East Division — three points behind second-place Greenville and five points behind first-place Florida.
