Future Flyers Report: Phantoms shut out for 3rd time all season

This weekend, a trio of Flyers prospects faced off against each other in Western League action, while affiliates in Allentown and Reading split a pair of weekend games. How did the Flyers of Tomorrow fare? Check out after the jump.

Juniors:

Travis Sanheim and Radel Fazleev faced off against Tyrell Goulbourne on Saturday, with Sanheim being the lone Flyer prospect to record a point — an assist in Calgary's 2-1 win over Kelowna. The assist was the lone point registered between Sanheim and Fazleev in two games, while Goulbourne was held off the board for two games as well.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel registered two points this weekend — a goal on Friday in a 4-3 win over Shawinigan, and an assist on Saturday against Drummondville in a 4-1 win.

Samuel Morin recorded two points this weekend, registering two assists in his Rimouski Océanic's 8-0 whitewashing of Acadie-Bathurst on Friday. In Saturday's 5-4 win over Halifax, Morin finished with a plus-2 rating, two penalty minutes and two hits.

American League:

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms went 1-1 this weekend, beating Binghamton 3-2 in overtime on Friday and being shut out by Hershey on Sunday, losing 2-0.

Kevin Goumas and Brett Hextall each scored against the Senators, while Brandon Manning scored the overtime winner with 4:33 to play in the extra stanza. Anthony Stolarz made 25 saves on 27 shots.

Rob Zepp made 14 of 16 saves on Sunday, as the Phantoms were shut out for the third time this season and first time since Nov. 8. Incidentally, their first time being shut out this season came against the Bears on Oct. 26. Their record against the Bears this season now stands at 4-6-0.

The Phantoms (25-23-6-1) still sit in third place in the East Division with 57 points, and sit nine points out of the Eastern Conference's eighth playoff seed.

ECHL:

The Reading Royals split a pair of weekend games, losing to Greenville 6-5 in a shootout on Friday and beating Elmira 3-1 on Sunday.

Friday's game was interesting for the Royals, as the Road Warriors jumped out to a 5-1 lead midway through the second period. The Royals fought back with goals from Cam Reid, Mike Marcou and Jordan Heywood, while Maxim Lamarche tied the game with 2:46 on the clock. Kenny Reiter was pulled after an eight-save-on-12-shot effort, and Connor Knapp made 24 saves on 25 shots the rest of the way.

Reid lit the lamp again on Sunday against the Jackals, while Sean Wiles and Adam Hughesman scored as well. Knapp returned between the pipes, saving 34 of 35 pucks.

The Royals (36-14-2-2) sit four points ahead of Florida for first in the East Division, and will continue their five-game homestand tonight against the Jackals. They will also face Toledo in a back-to-back next weekend at Santander Arena.
