Future Flyers Report: Phantoms suffer 1st loss, Royals open with loss

The Flyers season is already five games old but in the minors, it is the dawn of another season.

On Friday, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms played in just their second game of the season, opening the PPL Center with a 4-3 overtime win against the Adirondack Flames. Meanwhile, the rest of the minor-league season is just getting underway.

Here is more on the minors in today's Future Flyers Report.

The Phantoms had just one game over the weekend, taking a trip to Glens Falls to face the Adirondack Flames in the second half of a home-and-home. This time, the Flames got the better of the Phantoms in a 4-2 loss.

Forward Scott Laughton remained red hot in the defeat, scoring both Phantoms goals and bringing his weekend total to four. Anthony Stolarz made his professional debut, making 32 saves on 35 shots in the loss. The loss brought the Phantoms record to 2-1-0.

The Reading Royals, the Flyers new ECHL team, are preparing to open the season later this week. Over the last two weeks, the Royals have played two preseason games as warmups for the season, defeating the Elmira Jackels in both games by a score of 4-1.

They fell to the Wheeling Nailers, 6-3, this past Friday in their regular-season opener. Patrick MullaneZach Davies and Brett Fleming scored in the defeat. Connor Knapp made 21 saves in the loss.

Lastly, you may have heard about the horrific injury suffered by Flyers prospect Sam Morin in a QMJHL game for Rimouski Oceanic. Morin took a slap shot to the face and suffered a broken jaw as a result. He is out four-to-five weeks.

Check back on Saturday afternoon for another update from the farm system.
