An update on the progress of the Flyers of Tomorrow, following their respective weekends. Two prospects went toe-to-toe, while one farm club headed to the only sports city in North America east of the Eastern Time Zone to establish a four-game winning streak.
Juniors
Rimouski Oceanic and the Val-d'or Foreurs met on Friday, in a matchup that pitted Samuel Morin against Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Morin registered an assist and a plus-2 rating, while Aube-Kubel scored 1:28 into the game, en route to second star honors.
AHL
The Phantoms headed to Newfoundland this weekend to take on the St. John's IceCaps, beating them by scores of 4-2 on Saturday and 6-2 on Sunday. The team now improves their winning streak to four games.
Robert Hagg opened the scoring on Saturday, in his first game back since returning from the World Junior tournament. Brett Hextall, Andrew Gordon and Ryan White also scored, with Gordon's tally counting as the game-winner against his former team. Rob Zepp turned away 29 of 31 shots, before being called up to the Flyers in relief of the injured Steve Mason.
Five different players — Gordon, Nick Cousins, Steven Delisle, Blair Jones, Oliver Lauridsen and Jay Rosehill – all scored in Sunday's game. Anthony Stolarz made 21 saves on 23 shots.
With an 18-12-4-1 record and 41 points, Terry Murray's squad sits in third place in the tight East Division. They sit two points behind Hershey for second place and three points behind first-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Phantoms will be off until Friday, when the Albany Devils visit PPL Center. They'll play Binghamton on Saturday at PPL Center as well, during which they'll honor Bobby Clarke as part of "Legends Night."
ECHL
The Reading Royals went 1-2 this weekend, losing 6-5 to Wheeling on Friday, 4-2 to Brampton on Saturday and beating Brampton 6-2 on Sunday. The Royals have gone winless in four games against the Wheeling Nailers this season.
With a 21-12-1-1 record and 44 points, the Royals sit in third place in the East Division, three points behind Greenville. They sit six points behind first-place Florida.
Next up for the Royals is several days off, before heading to Elmira, N.Y. for a two-game set against the Elmira Jackals.
