Freddy Galvis this year can’t catch a break. In spring training, Galvis suffered from a MRSA infection, which lead to him missing most of the spring and the beginning of the season. Then upon returning to the big leagues Galvis struggled at the plate. In 15 games and 42 at bats, Galvis had two hits and three walks for a batting average of .048.
In order to get regular at bats and to try to find his swing, Galvis was sent down to AAA Leigh Valley. Reid Brignac took his place on the Phillies bench. But again Galvis suffered another setback, this time being a broken left clavicle. The injury occured in the sixth inning of Sunday night's game when Galvis and Phillies top prospect, Maikel Franco, banged into each other chasing a foul ball. The injury will require surgery, holding the defensive protégé out of games for six to eight weeks.
Galvis in his career has missed a lot of time especially for being the young age of 24. In 2012, it was a broken back and the 50 game PED suspension, and this year it’s MRSA and a clavicle. The question is will Galvis return and become the player that once was giving you a solid at bat with excellent defensive skills?
