Chip Kelly's Eagles needed all 10 wins last season to make the playoffs, the final two coming in the last two weeks of the season.
It is Week 14 and the Eagles could match last season's win total if they emerge victorious over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.
Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m.
The Eagles come in with a 9-3 record, about to play their final regular-season game against an opponent outside the division. The Eagles faced the other three NFC West teams with varied results. They lost to the 49ers and Cardinals earlier in the season, but defeated the Rams in Week 5.
All three of those games featured Nick Foles at quarterback. This time, Mark Sanchez continues to drive to the playoffs. Sanchez has a 63.4 percent completion rate, passing for 1,404 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions.
The Eagles running game ranks sixth in the NFL, which along with their fifth-ranked passing offense, balances their game. LeSean McCoy has struggled at times this season, but emerged as the strong running back who won a rushing title in 2013 last week in Dallas. McCoy has 1,018 yards rushing with four touchdowns. Darren Sproles has added five touchdowns on the ground with 295 rushing yards.
In addition to a sound running game, the Eagles receivers have been excellent week in and week out. Jeremy Maclin surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in Dallas, bringing his season total to 1,088 yards with nine touchdowns. Jordan Matthews also upped his total to seven touchdowns and has 686 yards in his rookie season.
Defensively, the Eagles have a tough task against the Seattle offense, and will rely on Mychal Kendricks, Connor Barwin and Trent Cole to be forces on the line in both the run game and pressuring the quarterback. For the passing game, the secondary of Malcolm Jenkins, Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher will need to step up as they did in Dallas.
The first thing that comes to mind about Seattle is their excellent defense.
K.J. Wright leads the team with 88 tackles. Michael Bennett has five sacks with Cliff Avril and Bruce Irvin trailing right behind with 4.5 sacks.
When it comes to the secondary, pick your poison. Richard Sherman has seven deflected passes and three interceptions. Bryon Maxwell has eight pass deflections and two interceptions. Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Marcus Burley all have one interception each while being among the team leaders in passes deflected.
Seattle's offense doesn't always come with an explosive nature, but they can score with the best of them. Russell Wilson leads the charge at quarterback with 2,466 yards passing and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions.
Marshawn Lynch is again proving to be a huge part of the Seattle ground game, rushing for 956 yards and nine touchdowns this season.
Doug Baldwin leads the Seahawks with 519 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Jermaine Kearse has 414 receiving yards and one touchdown. Lynch leads the receivers with three touchdowns and is third with 297 receiving yards.
Game Notes
- The Eagles are 7-6 all-time against the Seattle Seahawks, and lead the series in Philadelphia, 3-2. However, Seattle has won both times they have faced the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
- The last meeting between the Eagles and Seahawks was on Dec. 1, 2011, where the Seahawks claimed a 31-14 win over the Eagles in Seattle. The Eagles last beat Seattle, 26-7, on Nov. 2, 2008 in Seattle.
- Seven of the Eagles last 10 games against the Seahawks have been decided by at least two scores.
- The Eagles have 10 touchdowns on defense or special teams this season, a new franchise record. The NFL record is 13.
- Milestone Watch
- LeSean McCoy needs 48 rushing yards to set a new team record of 6,539 yards, passing Wilbert Montgomery's record. McCoy also ties Montgomery for second all-time with two more rushing touchdowns. With 100 yards on Sunday, McCoy would post three straight 100-yard games for the first time in his career.
- Jeremy Maclin ties his own career-high of 10 touchdowns in a season with one receiving touchdown.
- Darren Sproles needs 10 yards for the third-most punt return yards in a single-season in Eagles history, 24 for second all-time and 88 to set a new franchise record. Sproles also needs one punt return touchdown to set a new single-season franchise record.
- Connor Barwin needs 1.5 sacks to tie Reggie White for 10th most in a single-season in franchise history. Barwin can also become the third Eagle with five multi-sack games with two sacks on Sunday.
- Cody Parkey is fifth in Eagles history for single-season scoring and trails David Akers by 11 points for fourth. Akers holds the top four spots. Additionally, with just 22 points, Parkey will set an NFL record for most points by a rookie. Parkey also needs just four field goals to set a franchise record for most field goals in a season by a rookie.
- Mark Sanchez will set a new career-high with a third straight game of 300 passing yards or more if he repeats the feat on Sunday. It will also be the third-most ever by an Eagle in a single season.
