The Flyers couldn't stay out of the box early. They couldn't kill the penalties. P.A. Parenteau and Dale Weise each netted two goals. Alex Galchenyuk added three assists. When the dust had settled, the Montreal Canadiens edged the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.
Coming off a horrible penalty killing performance the night before, the Flyers took two early peanlties in the first period. Montreal capitalized on both and it was 2-0 just 8 minutes in and the Flyers spent the rest of the night chasing the game.
With Jason Akeson in the box, P.A Parenteau scored his first of the night at the 6:47 mark of the opening stanza. Parenteau was johnny on the spot as he slammed home a rebound on the near side to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, Claude Giroux was sent to the box for tripping. Montreal would once again capitalize with the man advantage. David Desharnais would get his second of the year at the 8:49 mark of the period for a 2-0 lead at the break.
The second would start out the same as the first. Carlo Colaiacovo was in the box for interference when P.K. Subban buried his fourth of the season. The goal was a great display of passing. Thomas Plekanec mad a great pass down low to Galchenyuk who wired the puck cross ice to a wide open Subban for the 3-0 lead.
The Flyers would eventually settle down and play a pretty solid second 10 minutes of the period. Brayden Schenn would get the Flyers on the board at the 12:01. Jake Voracek and Nick Grossmann got the helpers on Schenn's fifth of the season.
Six minutes later, Schenn tallied his second of the game and 100th point of his NHL career. Once again it was Voracek who set the play up and Schenn slammed home disc to get the Flyers to within one as the second period came to a close.
The Flyers would get outscored 3-1 in the third however as Montreal pulled away late. Parenteau got his second of the night at the 1:02 mark. He was able to keep his stick below the crossbar and deflected a Sergei Gonchar shot home to put Montreal up 4-2.
Matt Read would pull the Flyers back to within one again with his second of the year at 5:38. A fluky powerplay goal, It appeared the puck may have been covered in the crease but the ref never took his eye off it.
Carlo Colaiacovo sheilded the puck from the Canadiens from his knees and using his knee feed Matt Read for the goal. It was as close as the Flyers would get.
The teams exchanged chances throughout the next 8 minutes or so until Dale Weise put Montreal up 5-3 with his second on the year. Weise would put the game away with three minutes left with his second goal of the night as the puck deflected off his leg and in.
The Flyers outshot Montreal 29-28 for the game. Voracek's two assists extended his point streak to a new career best 10 games. Schenn and Giroux each extended their point streaks to 5 games. The Flyers now sit at 7-7-2 on the season. The Flyers next play Wednesday night in New York against the Rangers. Game time is 8:00
